【SDGs】米のもみ殻が社会課題の解決につながる

これまで有効活用が難しかった米のもみ殻から新たなカーボン素材を開発した山ノ井 俊さん。この新素材は、ニオイや汚れを吸着する特徴があり、消臭や抗菌効果のある製品に活用されています。またこの取り組みは、もみ殻を産業廃棄物として処分している農家の負担軽減や温室効果ガス排出の削減にも貢献しています。今後は、飲料水が枯渇している国や地域などにおける浄水技術にも活用していきたいと語る山ノ井さんの思い描く未来とは？

Mr. Shun Yamanoi has developed a new carbon material from rice husks, which have been difficult to utilize effectively until now. This new material can absorb odors and dirt, and is used in products with deodorizing and antibacterial properties. This initiative also contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the economic burden on farmers who dispose of rice husks as industrial waste. Mr. Yamanoi says he would like to use this material in water purification technology in countries and regions where drinking water is running out. What kind of future does he envision?
