【SDGs】海の恵みをアップサイクルして地元へ恩返し

廃棄されるはずのカキ殻に新たな価値を見いだしている加藤里衣さん。身を取り出したあとのカキ殻は、肥料や飼料として活用され、それ以外のほとんどは廃棄されているのが現状でした。そこで加藤さんは、地元の漁港などからカキ殻を買取り、アクセサリーなどに生まれ変わらせています。地域の廃棄物が資源として生かされ、環境保全と地域経済が両立できる社会をつくるためにも、この活動を続けたいと語る加藤さんの思い描く未来とは？

Ms. Rie Kato sees new value in oyster shells, which were going to be thrown away. After the oyster has been removed from its shell, some of the shells are used in fertilizer and animal feed, but the fact is that most of them are thrown away. Ms. Kato purchases oyster shells from local fishing ports and other sources, and then turns them into accessories and other items. Ms. Kato says she wants to continue this activity to create a society where local waste is utilized as a resource and where environmental conservation and local economies can coexist. What kind of future does she envision?
